Dandruff affects both men and women equally frequently and it is a persistent issue for many people.. Dandruff can be brought on by a variety of factors, from environmental factors to genetic ones. But to put it plainly, flakiness results from the buildup of too much fungus or bacteria on specific oily areas of your scalp. Old skin cells are pushed outward where they die and flake off as your skin constantly replaces itself.

Although these flakes are normally little and undetectable, dandruff can cause the skin cells to start replacing more quickly than usual. As a result, the skin sheds in bigger, greasy flakes. Itching the scalp, with or without scaling, is very common. It may occur in middle-aged people, for no obvious reason. The usual response is to scratch, and this will often cause scratch marks and little crusty sores throughout the scalp. Dandruff can cause an itchy scalp. There are also a number of less common skin conditions that can present as itching on the scalp.
