Arteries are high-pressure blood vessels that carry oxygen-rich blood away from the heart to all other tissues and organs. Just like every other organ, we need to keep it ticking for better cardiac health or else we might develop disorders like CLOGGED ARTERIES. As we grow older, the fat builds up causing injury to our blood vessel walls. Substances like excessive LDL cholesterol, cellular waste, toxins, and fat combine to form plaque that creates obstructions in our blood circulatory system. In this article, we will see artery cleansing foods and remedies.

This disorder progresses over the years and goes unnoticed until the plaque builds up causing chronic heart diseases like frequent strokes, heart attacks, etc.

Some of the warning signs of clogged arteries

  1. SHORTNESS OF BREATH:  As our heart can’t pump enough blood due to blocked arteries, our body becomes gets exhausted very easily due to lack of oxygen and leads to breathlessness.

  2. COLD HANDS AND FEET: As our arteries run to the ends of our body, a short supply of blood can lead to numbness, mostly felt in our hands and feet.

In order to keep our heart ticking for a long time, we might want to incorporate some major changes in our regular routine like exercising more often and cutting on foods containing high cholesterol. Our main target should be lowering LDL level which is a measuring unit for bad cholesterol.

 The following are some foods that we should cut from our diet:

  1. Sweet dishes like pastry, cakes, etc.
  2. Processed food like instant noodles, waffles, chips, and so on
  3. Fried foods like French fries, fried chicken, etc.
  4. Soft drinks
  5. Excessive poultry and dairy products

We can replace these foods with the ones containing the Unsaturated Fat. They contain High Density Lipoprotein (HDL) that prevents plaque deposition.

Foods that contain HDL are listed below

Fatty fish

King mackerel (Surmai), Sardines, Katla, Catfish (Singhara)

These fishes have a very high protein content accompanied by both Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids. They are low in calories and a healthy option for weight watchers. However, Surmai is believed to contain high mercury content so it’s advised to have it once every week (by choice).

Nuts

A lot of people see nuts as salty, fatty, containing high calorific value but according to     

Nutritionists, they deserve a better place in our diet. They have lots of protein, fiber, healthy unsaturated fats, and vitamins. If moderately taken, then nuts like Walnuts, Almonds, Pistachios, Hazelnuts, and Peanuts are good for health.

Spinach

Spinach is loaded with tons of nutrients in a low-calorie package. It contains Alpha-lipoic acid which is known to reduce blood glucose levels. The benefits are the same for both cooked and uncooked spinach. We can have it in our salads or sauté it with olive oil depending on the taste.

Garlic

Garlic is widely used as a seasoning agent in almost all Indian dishes. However, when it comes to Clogged Artery, garlic plays a pivotal role in reducing plaque. Formation as it contains a compound called Allicin. It also reduces the sugar level which leads to fat loss as we get better control of our hunger.

Ginger Tea

Ginger is a medicinal herb that has gained interest in the treatment of cardiovascular treatment. We can brew ginger in hot water and add a few drops of lemon juice for taste. It is advised to have it at least 2-3 times a day for better results.
