A well-sequenced session can easily reach the skin and muscles, letting us achieve the maximum benefit from the session.

Sequencing of transformative yoga practices stands on the pillar of four important aspects:

  • Asanas (yogic postures) – stretch and strengthen the body
  • Pranayama (breathing techniques)- detoxify and balance emotions
  • Mantras (chants) – focus and silence the mind while awakening the chakras

A Yoga Sequence to Open Your Heart & Stretch Your Back

 

Did you know that Yoga is good for heart’s physical and metaphysical health? Yoga helps to lower cardiovascular risk factors such as high cholesterol levels and blood sugar levels. It improves the circulatory system by supporting regular heart rhythms. When it comes to emotions, Yoga supports a healthy, open heart.

When you are practicing backbends, you must try to distribute the space as evenly as you can throughout the spine, and focus on the right part of the back.

 

Wild Thing (Camatkarasana)

It means “the ecstatic unfolding of the enraptured heart.”

  1. Inhale and move your right leg up and then back behind you.
  2. Bend the knee and open up through the hip.
  3. Slowly transfer your weight onto your right hand and onto the outer part of your right foot.
  4. With the feet grounded on the earth, lift up through the hips, open the heart by extending your left arm from your heart, allowing your head to hang back.
  5. Keep breathing and enjoy the pose, expressing your power and freedom.

 

Wheel / upward bow pose (Urdhva Dhanurasana) –

It helps you counteract depression and feelings of unhappiness

  1. Lie down with your feet grounded on the surface, hip distance apart.
  2. Find a neutral place for the lower back.
  3. Ground the shoulders to the mat and reverse the palms of the hands on either side of the ears.
  4. Press the toes, inhale and lift the hips up.
  5. Use your core muscles to lift your hips as high as possible.
  6. Allow your head to hang back and breathe easily through the nostrils. This is also called as Bridge Pose.
  7. Bring the hands closer towards the shoulders so that the back forms a concave arch with the floor.

A Yoga Sequence for Toned Legs

 

 

Getting shapely legs and toned hips is a dream come true. Unfortunately, our bodies work against us but if you want to strengthen and tone your legs, yoga is your best companion. Standing yoga poses helps to build and tone your leg muscles, including your quadriceps, hamstrings, and calves

Twisted Chair Pose (Parivrtta Utkatasana)

It Opens your chest, shoulders, and upper back. Improves the sense of balance

  1. Bring your feet together.
  2. Adjust your feet parallel with your feet toes.
  3. Sweep your arms upward overhead.
  4. Join your hands together in Namaskar Pose in the middle of your chest.
  5. Turn to the right side of your shoulders without moving your hips or knees.
  6. Slide your hands back until your wrist aligns with your elbows.
  7. When you inhale, focus on lengthening your spine by stretching outward through the top of your head.
  8. Breathe out to draw your shoulder bones together and further down your back.
  9. Hold the posture for seven breaths and then repeat on the other side.

 

Warrior I (Virabhadrasana I)

It transforms the intensity of mythological Hindu warrior, Virabhadra into a pose that builds focus, power, and stability.

  1. Stand in mountain pose.
  2. Step your left foot back to the rear of your mat.
  3. Turn your back heel down to the ground.
  4. At 45 degrees, turn the toes of your back foot.
  5. Bend through your front leg, stacking your front knee directly above your ankle.
  6. Reach strongly through your arms, lifting the ribcage away from the pelvis.
  7. Slide your hands back until your wrist aligns with your elbows.
  8. Square your torso forward and reach your arms upward over your head.
  9. Turn the feet forward and release the arms with an exhalation. When you’re finished return to Tadasana or mountain pose.
