What do you use as a bathing thing for your kids? 8 out of 10 will answer as soaps and bathing liquids. Soaps and gels available for kids are attractive, glittery, and with a very nice fragrance. But are they really good for such tender and soft skin? Today we will be telling you about 3 types of Ubtan for babies which are fully natural and does no harm to the baby’s skin.

Our moms and grandmoms used a paste kind of thing to bathe babies, and coincidently such kids never got any kind of rashes, pimples, or skin issues! Isn’t it a big coincidence or the effectiveness of using ubtan?

What is Ubtan?

Ubtan is a paste prepared using flour, milk, turmeric, malai, and many other ingredients like lentil powder, almond powder and such. It is a preparation that is not just used for babies, but is also used as a body, and face pack.

It is mostly known as a Hair-removing pack for babies, which takes off their fine layer of skin gently. This fine hair is meant to protect your baby, which actually sheds on its own after birth.

Depending upon the ingredients used, it shows its benefits and usage.

Is ubtan good for babies?

Ubtan, a traditional beauty paste made from natural ingredients, is often used in various cultures for skin care. However, when it comes to using ubtan on babies, it is essential to exercise caution.

While ubtan can have beneficial effects on adult skin, it is not recommended to be used on babies, especially infants. Baby skin is delicate and sensitive, and using ubtan may cause irritation, dryness, or allergic reactions.

It is always best to consult with a pediatrician before introducing any new skincare product or routine for babies. They can provide proper guidance based on the specific needs of your child and recommend safe and gentle alternatives for baby skincare.

When Ubtan is not suited for babies?

Many people who have undergone bad experiences with ubtan will never suggest or say bad for use. But before judging the thing, we should first know what is the correct way to use Ubtan.

Dry skin, sensitive skin, and oily skin. These are some of the skin types, from which babies differ with!

Baby skin is very sensitive and tender too. They need to be taken care of very gently and softly. In Ubtan case too, if you keep it very coarse and if the ingredients are not suiting the baby, then of course it will show bad results in the baby’s skin.

So before you start using Ubtan for your little one, always check which kind is going to suit your baby. And don’t rub it vigorously, instead of that, go with gently and soft hands. They will love it and you too will love their skin getting blossomed!

Preparation of 3 Types of Ubtan for babies

baby bath

1. Besan-Haldi Ubtan

This Ubtan is meant to clean your baby’s skin, cleaning off any kind of extra oil and dirt. It can be a bit harsh as it has lemon in it. If you think your baby is allergic to lemon, or he/she is having any kind of rashes and such; use honey as an alternative.

Ingredients used

Mix all the ingredients where besan should be double than haldi. Mix as per your need and make a paste; not so much thick and not so much thin.

Apply all over the body including the face (avoiding eyes and lips), and let it stay for a couple of minutes. Then remove this gently using lukewarm water with a gentle scrubbing pattern with your hands. You can use this once to twice a week.

2. Multicolor Ubtan

We are naming it Multicolor Ubtan, as it will have lots of ingredients in it. It is very effective and gentle on baby skin.

Ingredients used

  • Masoor dal powder- 2 teaspoon
  • Almond powder- 1 teaspoon
  • Multani mitti- 1 teaspoon
  • Malai- 1 spoon
  • Milk/rose water for mixing

Combine all the ingredients, where masoor dal powder should be the base ingredient. Mix to form a paste and used as a body pack while bathing.

This is very good during summer as keeps the body cool.

3. Curd and flour Ubtan

This pack will be a bit thin as the base ingredient will be curd here. If you feel your baby is getting heat rash or heat burns as in summer season, then go for this.

Ingredients used

Mix all the ingredients in a bowl, and form a paste kind of thing. Apply all over the body and gently clean with lukewarm water.

My experience with using Ubtan for my kids

I am a mother of two, one is turning 4 and the little one is now 5 months old. For both of them, I used Ubtan; for the elder one, I used it regularly for a year, and is still continuing with the little one.

Now also sometimes I apply ubtan to my elder son, like once or twice a week. It gave me great results, resulting in shiny, smooth and bright skin. The three types of Ubtan that I discussed above are all used by me and all have the best results.

But always seek your doctor’s advice with all these homemade things. It is not always that all the kids will get the same effectiveness and nice results with this. I have also seen many kids, who don’t suit such homemade products. They start getting bruises, rashes, and all such horrible things that nobody will appreciate.

And of course, as a parent, we will also not want our kid’s cute and tender skin to suffer from such. Talking about color enhancement, then skin color is genetically decided. These Ubtan and all such thing will keep their skin clean and the natural oil present will give a glow.

So not just Ubtan, don’t go on anything that promises to change your baby’s color like magic! No magic is going to happen, just choose better and skin-friendly products that keep your baby’s skin healthy and supple.

Do’s and Dont’s for Ubtan

Ubtan is natural and free from chemicals, but still, there are some pros and cons regarding this thing. Following are some of the points that you should be concerned about before using Ubtan.

customer satisfaction
  1. If you are living in a colder region, or if the weather is cold then avoid using the ubtan which uses aloe, curd, and multani mitti. All these ingredients keep the body cool, which is not good in winter.
  2. Don’t keep the ingredients very coarse as it can cause peeling of the skin. Rub very gently without any force.
  3. You can use this daily, or every ubtan type on an alternate day basis.
  4. Don’t keep the ubtan pack for long. It can make the paste get dried which can be tough to remove.
  5. During summers, you can apply aloe gel after the ubtan bath. It will restore moisture naturally.

Summary

So these are the things we should know about Ubtan, its uses and benefits. In markets, readymade Ubtan too is available of nice brands and such. However, fresh and homemade one is always the best. You can choose the ingredients as per your choice, like saffron, malai, orange peel powder, and so on.

Hope this post was useful to you. I also use Ubtan in different variations and according to the weather and nature of my baby’s skin.

You just need to be a little careful with Ubtan usage and everything will be okay. Don’t keep your motive as fair skin and for complete hair removal. Your motive behind using ubtan should be naturally glowing and healthy skin!

Take care and live well
