1. Rhubarb

Hindi name– Revand-chini, Archu
Sanskrit name– Amla-vetasa, Aml parni
Latin name– Rheum emodi Wall
Parts used– Root as dried rhizomes
Habitat– Himalayas; 8,000-13,000 feet; Kashmir, Nepal, Sikkim, Bhutan, China, Turkey and many other countries.
Action– Purgative, alterative, hemostatic, antipyretic, antihelmintic, laxative and atonic indigestion
Uses-
- Pitta dysentery
- liver disorders
- Protects colon
- Reduces weight and fat
- Jaundice
- Constipation
Precaution– Pregnancy, chronic diarrhea, gout, rheumatism, epilepsy, gout.
It is stronger when used with Epsom salt.
2. Prickly Chaff Flower

Hindi name– Apamara
Sanskrit name– Apamarga
Latin name– Achyranthes aspera Linn
Parts used– Herb, leaves, seeds, root flower (the whole plant is usable)
Habitat– It is found all over India under 4,000 feet
Action– Diuretic, expectorant, antibilious
Uses–
- Seeds are used as an expectorant or mixed with rice water for bleeding hemorrhoids
- Leaves are mixed with jaggery and used for fever, cough, insect bites and bee stings
- Decoction for renal edema, stomach ache, skin eruptions, etc.
Precautions– Do not use while pregnant
3. Arjuna Myrobalan

Hindi name– Arjun
Sanskrit name– Arjuna
Latin name– Terminalia arjuna, Pentaptera glabra
Parts used– Bark
Action– Cardiac stimulant, rejuvenative, astringent, hemostatic, alterative
Uses–
- Treats ulcers, acne, and other skin disorders
- The best herb for heart disease; heals heart tissue scars after surgery, angina etc
- Helpful in fractures and broken bones
4. Gigantic Swallowort

Hindi name– Aka
Sanskrit name– Arka
Latin name– Caltropis gigantea
Parts used– Root, leaves, and flowers
Action– As the herb is poisonous, special care should be taken while using it. Well, it is antispasmodic, purgative, expectorant, acrid and anti parasitical in nature
Uses–
- Promotes the healthy secretion of bile
- Abdominal disorders
- Dysentery
- Leaves are used for paralysis, anesthesia and toxic asthma
5. Lemongrass

Hindi name– Gandhatrana, Hari-chaha
Sanskrit name– Bhutrin
Latin name– Andropogon citratus
Parts used– Essential oil, herb
Action– Antispasmodic, diaphoretic, diuretic, stimulant, carminative
Uses–
- Bowel spasms
- An excellent tea for Pitta and kidneys
- Sprains, pains, rheumatism, lumbago
- Oil is used in perfumes, hair oils, etc
