When you get sprain, headache or any kind of wound pain then, which first aid your opt the first and in the least time? Commonly, we rub the place gently which is commonly called ‘Massaging’. Effectively, it even cures the body also. When anyone get pain on hands or legs; before any doctor or medication we try to cure it with massage only. Massaging can be said as one of the most efficient, cheapest and speed therapy which cures the symptoms.

Nature cure is the constructive method of treatment which aims in removing the basic cause of disease, through rational use of elements freely available in nature. Natural therapy and Herbal medicines are totally based on nature and has the motto to cure one efficiently, in an affordable way and without any painful procedures. It was practised in ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome. Hippocrates, the father of medicine strongly advocated it. Nature’s excellent healing agents are air, earth, water and sun. The Great baths of the Indus Valley civilisation as discovered at Mohenjodaro testifies the use of water for curative purposes in ancient India.

Here, on our present topic we will be covering the details of “Massage therapy”. Being one of the effective forms of therapy; it is affordable, eco-friendly and efficient for everyone.

What is Massage therapy?

Massage in an excellent form of passive exercise. The word ‘massage’ is derived from the Greek word ‘massier‘ which means ‘to knead’. It slowly compresses the st tissues and helps to kick out the pain from the part. Since 400 B.C, it has been used as a mode of treatment for many ailments and it has restored many a sufferer to health and vigour.

When our body gets hurted, several movements and mechanisms are involved in it. When we massage some part of our body; five movements are too involved which are given as below-

 

1. Effleurage (Stroking)-

 It involves sliding with the hands, using long even strokes over the surface of the body.

2.  Friction (Rubbing)-

These are the movements which are circular in nature and are performed with the help of thumb and tips of fingers.

3. Petrissage (Kneading)

This process is done in the same way as we knead flour. One should apply heavy pressure for superficial kneading.

4.  Tapotement (percussion)-

It involves hacking, tapping and clapping and is achieved by striking the body rapidly.

5. Vibration (Shaking or trembling)-

In this whole muscles are shaken for optimum results. In this the hand should move constantly and in a vibrating motion.

Material required in Massage therapy:-

  • Most commonly, we use mustard oil for massage. It is good during winters and keeps your body healthy. For many, mustard oil is an allergen product; so should be avoided by those.
  • Cotton oil is also used in massaging and is also beneficial.
  • Butter is used for skin massage and is also used in breast enlargement.
  • Oil should not be used by persons with heavy hairs on body.
  • One should rinse oil 20-30 minutes after the massage.

Massage is not simply rubbing of oil on body; but it is done for several remedial actions. It is also a simple treatment for many ailments. The picture given below will help you how to carry out massage. It has several advantages, some of them are listed below-

  • Massage of Joints-

This massage is mostly for older age persons. When they turns old, the joints starts getting weaken and thus needs massage therapy. This is helpful to cure stiff and swollen joints. However, this is not recommended in serious inflammatory cases of the joints. This therapy is even good to cure sprains and bruises. Before the massage, the affected parts should be first bathed with hot water for 15 to 30 minutes.It is employed for eliminating muscle contractions and for adhesions. It can also cure fractures.

  • Massage of Nerves-

Massage is even good to cure many nerves problems such as strokes and acute inflammation of the nerves. In this, light and gentle stroking are recommended. In case of swollen nerves, deep pressure should be avoided as it can increase the inflammation. Sleeplessness and Insomnia can also be cured using this. Nerve compression is recommended for soothing nerves.

  • Abdominal massage-

Abdomial massage is good to cure stomach problems like constipation, hernia, intestinal disorders and many more. It stimulates the peristalsis of the intestines, tones up the abdominal muscles and clears the bowel for better digestion. Abdominal massage should not be done in the case of kidney stones, during pregnancy, ulcers of the stomach and intestines and disorders related to fallopian tubes, ovaries, bladder, uterus and many more.

  • Massage of the Throat-

Throat massage is best to overcome headache, sore throat, catarrh of throat, seasonal ailments (which are non-infectious) and many more. It is also useful to clear the voice and also cures voice hoarseness. In this, the patient is made to throw the head back. The downward stroke is next made towards the chest over the jugular veins. Keep in mind, do not exert heavily on the veins; it should be repeated several times for a better result.

Tip for Winter massage:-

During winters, many problem arises related to joins, inflammation and dryness of skin. As winter is not too far; to avoid these afflictions follow-up the points given below-

  1. Take 2 cups of pure mustard oil.
  2. Take 5-6 cardamoms, 6-8 cloves, 5 sticks of cinnamon, 3 bay leaf, 10-12 black pepper, chopped 8-10 garlic buds and chopped 1 teaspoon of ginger root.
  3. Cook all together till all the spices gets black.
  4. Let the oil cool and then strain it.
  5. Store the oil in an air-tight glass container.
  6. Daily, 1 hour before bathing apply this on your whole body.
  7. It will keep you warm during winters and also avoids several disorders.

Massage; it is a simple thing but works really well! Try it and also advise this to your friends and other well-wishers. It is the best technique to prevent and get rid of diseases. Take care and live well!
