In that it’s probably a really tasty substitute for sodas, yes. But it won’t magically make the pounds come off; that happens pretty much solely through eating fewer calories than you exert. So obviously drinking fruit-infused water is going to be taking in fewer calories than, say, a can of cola (the FTW would have almost no calories at all, really).
But I wouldn’t use it as some sort of “I must have this and only this for a week” detox cleanse or something. For starters, the idea of detox is something of a myth – you have a liver which does a very fine job of doing that very thing anyway. And for seconds it would be an unhealthily low amount of calories to take in, and virtually no other nutrients. Yes it would make you thinner, because you’d be starving yourself. Duh.
If you were to use FTW let it be as part of a balanced, healthy diet with the calories at least vaguely related to how much you exercise. It couldn’t do you any harm used that way.
