Human Digestive System is an important topic in Biology field. Let us learn this in an interesting way. Today we will be taking about Human digestive system and other things related to it.

After eating something heavy and oily food stuffs; many of us are liable to suffer from indigestion, acidity, heartburnings, diarrhea, constipation and many more.

For the instant treatment we prefer; some antacids, lemonade or syrups. Why treatment; why not prevention with great ease? Had we guys ever thought how these minor yet affective disorders be uprooted!

It is a fact to know; all the medicines have some side-effects that deplete our body during senescent stage. It’s good to own some natural prevention and good health instead of getting treated by a heap of medicines.

A deep and clarified knowledge of something is necessary to go into deep within.

We will be describing the ‘Human digestive system’ first; and in a precise way we will be offering the deep knowledge of how actually the digestion problem occurs. Here we go-

Different systems in Human Body:

We human beings are made of several systems in a proper and definite way. The proper arrangement of body systems in an equivalent status forms an ‘Individual’. Those systems are

  • Respiratory system
  • Excretory system
  • Nervous system
  • Circulatory system
  • Digestive system

The combination of these forms a well grown individual.

What is Digestive system?

Digestive system is the process through which the food is broken down into simpler substances and is the proper nutrients are extracted that is used for the nourishment of the body cells.

Our food is made of many substituting molecules like; Protein, Carbohydrates, Vitamins, Enzymes, Amino acids, water and many more.

Each and every of them possesses some special function and health nourishment. Like vitamins are used to carry energy to different cells; the medicines we intake are carried by the vitamins to the specific organs and cells.

Human Digestive System:

There are many processes involved in digestion; they are listed below-

  • Mastication

  • Swallowing

  • Digestion

  • Absorption

  • Defecation

As defined earlier; Digestive system is the process of breakdown of food in small simple particles for the proper nourishment of body.

Now we will be describing the different parts of digestive system and their specific functions-

  1. Oral cavity-

The first part of digestive system is ‘Oral cavity’ also called ‘Buccal cavity’. It includes teeth, salivary glands, tongue and mouth.

First of all, we intake our food into mouth; it is called ingestion. The teeth tongue and membranes are responsible for proper chewing.

The salivary glands produce saliva that is rich in enzymes like pepsin, lipase, lysozymes, amylase etc. These lubricate and soften the food making it easy to engulf. About 1.5 liters of saliva is secreted per day.

  2. Esophagus-

It is a long narrow muscular tube that extends from the pharynx. It is about 22-25 cm in length. The function of esophagus is to let the food pass to the stomach. As the food is lubricated and slippery; the passing down becomes easier.

  3. Stomach-

It is the most delicate organ of the digestive system. Stomach is a J-shaped organ in which is like a storage bag of emulsified food. Before getting digested; the food particles remains in the stomach.

It is the end of esophagus and the beginning of small intestine. Stomach contains gastric juices that are admixed with food in order for the proper digestion.

Gastric juices are very strong digestive juice that has one more function; after death, these enzymes act as the strong acids and starts diffusing the body.

  4. Pancreas-

It is a small part situated just below the stomach portion. It has pale grayish texture. It is 15 cm long. Chyme is a part that works when the pancreas is not working. It has the function to breakdown fats, proteins and starch.

  5. Liver

It is a soft pinkish-brown organ which is the largest gland in the human body. It aids in digestion and removes waste products from the blood. It lies right to the stomach and overlies the gall bladder. It measures up to 20 cm and is 12 cm thick.

  6. Small intestines-

Now after getting soluble, food passes through the end stages. It is the longest part of the gastrointestinal tract. It is about 7 feet in height through which food has to pass to reach large intestines.

Small intestines are divided into three parts- The duodenum, the jejunum and the ileum. The duodenum is the longest portion of small intestines. Here only, the major part of digestion occurs.

  7. Large intestines-

It is the second last part of digestive system. It is about 1.5 meters long and surrounds the small intestines. The function of large intestine is to absorb water from the remaining indigestible food matter.

  8. Anus-

It is the excreting organ of the body. After getting properly secreted and extracted, the left food particles are trashed by the anus.

Disorders related to Human Digestive system:

If any of the part is disturbed or weak then it causes digestive problems. Emeses, Constipation, Peptic ulcer, Heartburn, Dysphagia are some of the examples. In these disorders, our body feels very dehydrated and weak.

Yogasanas for a healthy digestive system:

Vajrasana, Gomukhasana, Halasana and several  Pranayama are useful to keep your digestive system tip top.
