Fresh air is the first requirement of a living being to stay healthy. We know that plants releases oxygen, but the recent studies has proven; there are many plants which are the way to purify the air and to eliminate volatile organic compounds from it. Everyone likes gardening and some even likes to plant few pots at home too. It not only increases are beauty of the home but also has numerous scientific benefits. Here we will be talking about the 5 Ornamental plants to purify Indoor air.

To make our home free from germs and diseases, we go through several steps like brooming, mopping, using disinfectant liquids and many more. Currently winter season is going on, flu’s and common ailments are seen the most in this climate. We keep ourselves clean, our surroundings clean; still the diseases are always there. Is there some deformity in your Indoor oxygen? Outside, the world is full of pollutants and germs; but many times that polluted air even enters our home and damages the balance.

The indoor plants not only purifies the indoor air but also helps to de-tress the surroundings. The green leaves and the colourful plants, helps to enhance the positive energies and makes our lives good. We clean our homes regularly so that all the microbes stay away. But even tried the bes, some of the harmful chemicals can’t be erased with a simple cleaning. Some of those harmful elements are;

  • benzene: in plastics, synthetic fibers, lubricants, rubber, pesticides, and more)
  • trichloroethylene: in paint removers, rug cleaning solution, adhesives, and more

1. Peace Lily-

It is one of few house-plants that will bloom indoors, the peace lily with its seashell-shaped spathes really will bring a touch of summer into a dreary winter. One of the best plants for removing formaldehyde, it also removes benzene and certain VOCs that are emitted by harsh cleaning products (making it another good office plant, particularly if your maintenance staff doesn’t use green cleaners). It also prefers low-light conditions and has a high transpiration rate that will humidity your air. Just be aware that the leaves can be poisonous to pets and children, so peace lily may not be a great choice for new parents or pet owners.

2. Aloe Plant or Aloe Vera-

Aloe Vera plant is also said as the ‘plant from heavens’ due to its curative properties. The gel of aloe plant is used in almost all the diseases. You must be surprised to know that this stemless plant can also help to purify the indoor air as well.The plant can help clear the air of pollutants found in chemical cleaning products, and when the amount of harmful chemicals in the air becomes excessive, the plants’ leaves will display brown spots. Just an FYI: It grows best with lots of sun. One should must have this place; as it is numerous benefits.

3. Bamboo plant-

According to Feng shui, Bamboo is a kind of plant which helps to keep negative energies away and keeps your house peaceful and happy. It is kind of Feng shui gadget called Feng shui bamboo; it is widely available in market. You can also plant it at home for a better look and for happy surroundings. This very plant is particularly effective at clearing out benzene and trichloroethylene. You need to put it in the place which receives moderate temperature and minimal sunlight. Water it timely and make sure for a good growth.

4. Spider Plant-

The name ‘Spider plant’ looks very typical, isn’t it. It is called so because it spreads and the leaves looks like those of the legs  spider. It is one of the common house plant which is decorative and easy to grow.Spider plants are among the easiest houseplants to grow, making them a great choice for beginners or forgetful owners. A fan of bright, indirect sunlight, spider plants will send out shoots with flowers that eventually grow into baby spider plants or spiderettes.

The plant mostly removes formaldehyde, xylene and benzene from the atmosphere.

5. Garden mum-

This is a flowering plant which bears very bright and cute flowers. It is also called Florist’s Chrysanthemum (Chrysanthemum morifolium). While anthurium and orchids do a good job purifying the air, the florist’s chrysanthemum (commonly called a “mum”) is one of the best. Technically not a houseplant, this seasonal beauty flowers for about six weeks with proper care. When it’s spent, toss it in the compost pile and treat yourself to another fresh pot.

It helps to eliminate formaldehyde, xylene, benzene, ammonia and other harmful gases from the surroundings. You can care the plant easily, as it has not so issues. Place the chrysanthemum in bright, indirect light. Check the soil’s moisture every other day, and keep it damp. Don’t bother with fertilizer, as it won’t re-bloom.
