Never let your kids sit in ‘W’ pose, here’s why

Kids love sitting in ‘W’ pose. It is the most comfortable and eased position for them.  Do you know that, sitting in W pose can be bad for your kids in future references! Yes, it can lead to several health problems which can be fatal even. Today we will be telling you, why W pose can be bad for kids.

“W-sitting” is a commonly used position by children. In this position, children sit on their bottoms, with their knees bent, feet tucked under, and their legs splayed out to the side in what looks like a “W”. This is a standard sitting position because children feel supported and secure. Many parents do not know or recognize the danger of letting a child sit like this for too long.

Most infants and toddlers sit with their legs bent in front of their bodies. This position is called ring sitting. For kids, this is the very eased and comfortable pose, so they generally use this pose.

  • Increased child’s risk of hip dislocation
  • Hinders standing balance and ability to run and jump due to inability to shift weight

These are the primary reasons why having a child sit in this position is strongly discouraged. We want our children to grow strong, and this type of sitting prevents that. It also puts unnecessary strain on the body.

How to prevent kids sitting in W pose?

It is best to prevent children from developing this habit. However, we all know children who have already established this as a preferred seated position. When possible, anticipate and catch it before you see your child move into a “W-sit”. If and when you do see your child in a “W”, consistently encourage her to adjust to a different position by saying, “Fix your legs.”

Make sure children know what some of their other options are so they can choose an alternative. Encourage your kids to sit n right position and keep an eye on it. Take care and live well!

  1. Very educating one. W position also develop knock knee and flat foot problems. Therefore parents should pay attention to correct this habit.
